Rules Of Engagement - J. T. Geissinger
I'll be honest here: I went into this book expecting it to be waay better. I happen to like this authors work. I mean it's not the story thats bad or even the characters. It's just... everything XD (If that makes any sense). Just stay with me, maybe I can articulate my meaning better below. As the plot suggests the leads have a hate - love thing going on. But the guy surprisingly has what I can only interpret as 'love at first sight' with the heroine. He obviously believes he doesn't deserve her (rolls eyes) and so he turns into an asshole around her. He's also got an anger management thing. This makes the two characters clash a lot and exchange some very very witty banter (which I loved and was the highlight of the whole book. Their banter made me crack up so many times). The part of the story that didn't set well with me was the characters. They seemed completely unreal. I couldn't connect with thier personality or development. Our hero is portrayed as this icicle of a man but who has a gooey marshmallow center (not my words, it's legit mentioned that way in the book) and our heroine is a pink lover who believes very strongly in love and soul mates. I couldn't really find the 'icicle' part of him anywhere in the book other than a few angry outbursts he has. And I'm not a lover of instant love so it was a downer that the hero just fell for the heorine at first glance. Like legit saw a golden halo above her head with blinding light surrounding her. The most puzzling character was the guy tbh. His character...it just seemed very immature and childlike despite the fact that he's said to be this cold cold man who is crude and harsh and etc. The heroine...she seemed too put together, too polite...just too perfect. I mean not that it's a bad thing, it's just a very unrealistic and hard to connect. I wouldn't discourage anyone to not pick this up (more than I already have XD) if you love witty banter and cold heroes with a vulnerable golden heart and some Insta love.
