Crash Landing on You tells the story of two star crossed lovers, Yoon Se-ri (Son Ye-jin), a South Korean heiress, and Ri Jeong-hyuk (Hyun Bin), a member of the North Korean elite (who also happens to be an army officer). One day while Yoon Se-ri goes for a short paragliding ride in Seoul, South Korea, a sudden tornado knocks her out and blows her off course. She awakens to find herself in a forest in the DMZ in North Korea (a forbidden area for South Koreans). It is here that she meets Ri Jeong-hyuk, a North Korean army officer. Ri Jeong-hyuk eventually gives Yoon Se-ri shelter, and develops plans to secretly help her return to South Korea. Over time, they fall in love, despite the divide and dispute between their respective countries.

Crash Landing On You

This drama was like a breath of fresh air from the Kdrama slump I was going through! The plot of this series is very unique from everything I’ve seen until now. It takes forbidden romance to a whole new level and in a very realistic way. It’s the romance between a North Korean soldier and a South Korean businesswoman.

Our female lead, Yoon Se-ri (played by Son Ye-Jin) is a beautiful, smart business woman running a fashion line called Seri’s Choice. She is a south Korean heiress. She has a troubled family history as she is her father’s illegitimate daughter. She has a difficult relationship with her two step brother and step mom. Basically apart from a shrewd father she doesn’t have anyone who really cares for her.

And..she’s never fallen in love before.

Our male lead, Captain Ri Jeong-Hyuk (played by Hyun-Bin) is a handsome, skilled captain in the North Korean army who mans the borders of South and North Korea. He is very popular among his village for being handsome and has all the aunties flocking towards him during his discharge. He is loved by his parents but had a brother who was mysteriously killed in a truck accident. He’s a stickler for rules and seeks justice for his brothers death.

And..he’s never fallen in love before.

Oh I cant express how giddy I felt watching these two people who had dealt with so much in life, slowly fall in love with each other! It was amazing to see how different they had been before they met and how much they changed and grew over time after meeting each other. The character development is Daebak!

The North Korean slang used in this drama was so addictive, I found myself speaking it in my everyday convo! XD

Our leads meet when Yoon Se-ri crash lands on North Korea due to a paragliding accident.

Our good looking captain Ri Jeong – Hyeok attempts to help her escape which inevitably fails. She’s now stuck with him and his team to find another way to send her back home safely. The turn of events as they go through this are hilarious and so captivating. Admittedly, the story might, and it’s a very slight case of ‘maybe’, feel a little slow to some people but oh’s definitely worth it!

I loved everything about this series. Both the main leads are perfect in their acting and roles. They have such intense chemistry and the acting felt so goddamn real, I can’t even begin to express how engrossed I was! My emotions were all over the place – ranging from happiness, swoon, tears escaping my eyes and love. There’s only so much I can say without revealing any spoilers!

Its also important I point out that being a fictional drama you would think the characters would have a different ending to their North Korean – South Korean dilemma, but I’m so happy they dealt it in such a realistic and mature way!

*I warned you!*

Towards the middle I totally fell for the side characters romance. And just with my luck.. I was left heart-broken. I wont elaborate on why because you know it’ll be a major plot spoiler. Both these side characters had such tragic pasts I was so hoping for a nice swoony happy ending. They freaking deserved it man! I’m sobbing now. You see that? That’s tears rolling down my face. I. CAN’T. BREATHE. Why did the writer have to end it that way? It was totally unnecessary and heart wrenching!

But please do watch this drama if you like military romance, slow burn falling in love and that EPIC love.
