Hotel Del Luna

I love everything paranormal. This drama deals with ghosts, immortals, fate and what not. Hotel Del Luna is a luxury hotel for the afterlife. When a person dies their ghost (soul) can find safe sanctuary in this hotel till they get passage to cross the bridge into heaven/hell/reincarnation. The current hotel keeper is Jang Man-Wol. Due to a huge sin committed a millennium ago, she has been stuck at the hotel catering to the dead before they pass on to the cycle of reincarnation. This drama is told with an alternating past/present story.

Now I began this drama because its paranormal romance, a mix of both my favorite genres. But I ended up liking it 90% for IU also known as Lee Ji-eun (the actress who plays Jang Man-Wol) and 10% for everything else. IU is actually a singer is real life. And her acting is so pretty! Especially when she does this teary eyed look heart ACHES. This drama has got women power all over. She’s the boss in her world.

The backstory of Jang Man-Wol’s character is very heartbreaking. I don’t want to reveal too much about her past because it’s a crucial plot twist in this drama. But I will say that I loved her past love story a little more than her present love story. This drama will really make you conspire theories of what is going to happen.

Unlike what I had initially thought, this drama does not really charm us with its romance. Like I mentioned before, the ‘present love story’ falls short. Yes, the guy is cute and they have a good hate-love romance but it still lacks something. Something that makes the romance of the leads take a back seat to everything else going on in the drama. Also pssst..*Mild Spoiler* that ending was not what I was expecting (sobs in silence).

Watch this for IU and if you love paranormal romance!
