Shadow & Bone

Welcome to the Grishaverse. It’s a fan favourite fantasy romance filled with action, magic and a plethora of fascinating characters. My personal favourite is Jesper. Before you ask, no, I haven’t read the books so I don’t know why everyone praises the Darkling or Kaz. Though the darkling sure is easy on the eyes ;)

I don’t know how fans of the book have found this series come to life but I quite enjoyed watching the show. Like always, everything wasn’t perfect, there was room for improvement but it did what’s it meant to do best: it was entertaining and captivating as hell.

We have two central characters to the story : Alina Starkov - the sun summoner and Darkling/Kirigan - the shadow summoner. But even though the story revolves around their actions and power, we get to see so much side characters and their stories. I loved the three crows (Kaz, Jesper and Inej) and I loved Nina and Matthias (I’m hopeful for them in the next season, which I hope would be there). Okay so maybe I loved the Six of Crows gang more than the Shadow and Bone gang xD I can see why people love that series more than this one. (For people who aren’t aware - the Six of Crows is also set in the Grishaverse and tells the story of 6 characters - Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Nina and Matthias i.e. if I’m not mistaken).

I can rant about my love for Jesper but I’ll keep it short. Without being shown as the show stopper he happens to be one. He’s charming, quick, loyal, fun and so freaking cool with his gun skills.

I have a lot of theories and questions about this show. This is a part of a three book series and the ending has set up the groundwork for the next season nicely. I can’t wait to watch it. The ending isn’t abrupt or it doesn’t leave you hanging in a cliffy. It just keeps you intrigued enough to be able to wait and watch whenever we get another season. Which I appreciate - wouldn’t want to be left with any burning questions or heart ache and wait for god knows how long until they release the second season.
